Sustainability Practices

Vegetable Tanning

We utilize the most sustainable practices when it comes to our tanneries and the tanning process, utilizing oils from naturally occurring materials.

What is vegetable tanning?

In short, vegetable tanned leather refers to the method of tanning the hide into leather, and is called vegetable due to the use of natural materials in the process, such as tree bark.

Why is it better?

The vegetable tanning process offers an eco-friendly alternative to the harsher chemicals utilized in chrome tanning, with the byproducts being 100% recyclable and offering the best possible conditions for the factory workers.

What are the alternatives?

This is one of oldest tanning methods known to man, though has been phased out due to faster, more environmentally detrimental tanning methods, such as chrome tanning. Chrome tanning is a recently developed process applied to 90% of all leathers produced.
