There’s a certain kind of New York story that doesn’t try too hard. Built on instinct, consistency, and a clear point of view. Leon’s Bagels is exactly that.
Founded in 2021 by Chris Taha, the shop operates with a simple mantra: “Nothing Fancy.” It’s not about reinventing the bagel, but refining everything around it. Keeping the product classic while elevating the experience, hospitality, and pace.
We met Chris outside the shop on Thompson Street, his Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbodiesel parked nearby, reworked with Leon’s branding. Like the shop, it felt timeless and personal. An extension of his approach.
“Bagels are the people’s food,” Chris told us. Whether it’s a longtime local or someone passing through, there’s a shared nostalgia tied to something so simple. That’s what Leon’s aims to capture; familiar, approachable, and done with care.
For the morning, Chris wore the Osborne Penny Loafer in brown, styled with Leon’s iconic bagel socks, a vintage carpenter pant, an oversized worn-in tee, and a NY Yankees cap. Nothing overthought, just considered.
In a city that’s always moving, Leon’s is a reminder that the best ideas don’t need to be complicated, they just need to be done right.
